No more plastic bags in Austin
Austin is the first major Texas city to impose this ban, and only among about 24 other U.S. cities to adopt a bag law . Austin is often touted as being on the cutting edge of the sustainability movement, and this month, the Austin City Council passed an ordinance that did just that. A year from now, Austinites will no longer be able to rely on stores to supply free bags at the checkout counter. Starting March 2013, all retail stores in Austin will not be allowed to provide single-use paper or plastic bags, and all customers will be required to supply their own if they want to bag their purchases.
